What
is ID Protection?
When a domain name is
registered, the registrant's personal information is made public to
anyone who wants to see who owns the domain.
That information includes the owner's name, address, phone number,
email address, business, fax and organization name.
That information can easily be found in a WHOIS search. To some web
site owners, this public information is of no concern.
The public record can allow for direct contact between a domain owner
and legitimate entities inquiring about the domain to make sale offers
or business propositions.
However, the information obtained in a WHOIS search can also be used by
spammers and scammers and anyone who wants to know more about a domain
owner and send unwanted spam and possible cause disruption to the
domain owner.
ID Protection is a feature that hides your personal information in
WHOIS databases. With ID Protection, no one will know who owns the
domain.
In the case that legitimate interested parties seek to contact the
owner, a request is made through the domain owner's registrant. If the
registrant believes the correspondence to be appropriate, the request
is forwarded to the domain owner. The domain owner can choose whether
or not to respond to the interested party.
