How
do I create a subdomain?
A subdomain looks like this: "subdomain.mydomain.com". Subdomains can
be though of as a prefix to the main domain name. Subdomains can be
used to create memorable addresses and can be used to divide a site's
contents into manageable sections.
For example, if I were operating a web site about fruits, I could
create a subdomain for each fruit and create unique pages with each
subdomain such as, apples.mydomain.com, pears.mydomain.com,
strawberries.mydomain.com and so on.
Or, I may choose to add a feature such as a forum to my domain and call
it forum.mydomain.com.
Subdomains can be thought of as individual mini web sites and will
require an index.htm page to work properly.
To create a subdomain, go into your cPanel and click on "Subdomains" in
the Domains sections. Enter the sub domain name you want to create and
hit create. The subdomain will be automatically created. In your files,
the new subdomain created will have its on folder or directory under
the domain that it was created upon. Enter that new folder and upload
your site files as if it were a new web site all in its own.
