Affiliates are individuals or companies who get paid to promote
websites by directing customers to a host website.
Affiliates are often webmasters who own a website of their own. An
affiliate will place banners or links on their site(s) advertising a
host website for their visitors to click on. When an affiliate sends a
visitor to a host site, the affiliate recieves a commission in a
pay-per-click setup or a sale commission if the referred visitor
completes a purchase.
In a sales commission, the amount an affiliate can make per visitor
varies. An affiliate could make a few dollars per referal or as much as
$100 depending on the terms of the affiliate contract.
Advanced
affiliates, create entire web sites, pages and articles around a single
affiliate program. Those affiliates often operate dozens of web sites
and promote dozens of companies. Advanced affiliates can and do make
healthy profits.
A web site with moderate site traffic can benefit from affiliate
advertising and the income gained can supplement a site.
